Is this something our council should vote on?

The Duluth City Council will consider weather they should pass a resolution by councilor Russ Stewart at there next meeting. The resolutions calls for withdrawal of all national guard units from Iraq and that Minnesota send no more troops to Iraq.

Do you believe this is something the council should get involved in?

The resolutions would be forwarded to Gov. Pawlenty, along with all represintives for Minnesota.

I would love to hear feed back from readers on this one. I will have more later, but here is the resolution.

WHEREAS, the mission of the Minnesota National Guard is to serve ourcitizens by assisting the state of Minnesota during disasters and otherstate emergencies, unless there is a real threat from a foreign invader; and

WHEREAS, the federalization and deployment of the Minnesota NationalGuard in a foreign occupation is contrary to the mission of the NationalGuard; and WHEREAS, deployment of the Minnesota National Guard to Iraq hasresulted in financial hardship for guard families and has disrupted theirfamily lives and careers; and WHEREAS, the war and occupation of Iraq has so far resulted in over3,000 American deaths and over 22,000 American wounded as well as tens ofthousands of Iraqi deaths.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Duluth City Council expressesits respect for all members of the armed forces of the United States andthanks them for their willingness to serve when called upon to do so.
