Post coming tonight

Hi all we are very grateful that you take the time to read our blog. Sorry for not posting as of late. There has been a couple of issues behind this.

Work has consumed most of the time. As you may remember we umpire youth softball and it has been playoff week this week so almost every night we have been doing that. Durning the day it is our regular jobs. Softball come to a close this weekend at wade stadiums softball Fields. If you have nothing to do come and watch these kids play.

The other is issue is there has not been a lot of news this last week or so. Yes it is has been filled with the health care issue facing Duluth but we wanted to let that "go" for now. We will however have a few thoughts on that. Therefore up tell yesterday there was not a lot to comment on but now there are few things we want to and hope to tonight and tomorrow so check back.

Again and as always thanks for reading.

BWCA fires

The fire in the BWCA seems to still be the big story. They did see a little relief yesterday as they got some rain. This helped with the fire, but it continues to cause big problems.

Notes.

There has not been a lot of news. There for not many post this week.

The big story is the fire in the BWCA. We all knew that there was going to one day be the "big one" from the blow down a number of years ago now. It has come this is it. We wish the best for that area.

The other reason there has not been many post is we at DP have been very busy with softball as the season is coming to an end. Playoffs start this next week with the big wrap up Saturday and Sunday at wade staduims softball fields. Come out and watch some great softball that weekend then go to the Huskies.

Speaking of the Duluth Huskies we will from now on be your place to get the news about them, so check out our sports page at www.duluthpoliticssportspage.blogspot.com

sites to watch

http://duluthsolutions.com A new Duluth board. Talk about issues that matter to you.

http://almostontherange.blogspot.com Covers many local issues.

http://duluthpoliticssportspage.blogspot.com Our sports page we have more new items up today and look for more later.

http://duluthpolitics.blogspot.com As always keep upto date with us as well.

One name of note on the AG race.

Former Governor hopeful Steve Kelley has entered the AG race. If I was to vote for a DFLer it would be him .

The AG race is wide open.

Matt Entenza dropped out of the race yesterday. It was because of troubles with him and Mike Hatch. We have not followed this very close but there are other blogs that have. Here is one to read a lot on the issue, http://minnesotademocratsexposed.com.

We do however have some thoughts on this, it seems much like a heavy weight fight between two high power Minnesota DFLers. Mike Hatch the ever big bully wins again. With Entenza out it clears the way for the Hatch camp to do what it wants to. Hatch has bullied his way into and threw out his political carrier.

With that said I also tend to agree with Chris over at http://duluthsolutions.com. He believes that Entenza is a arrogant jerk read what he said at Duluth solutions by clicking the link.

What does this mean? The race for AG is wide open again. At least on the Democrat side. There were a lot of registered yesterday for the seat again go to MDE for more on that.

More I believe this means that the DFL will be closer to untied then thought with Entenza out.

Crime

We here at Duluth Politics will be getting the email updates from the Duluth Police. Our first one came today.

There were three incidents reported on it this time. Two had to deal with guns and one a fire. Both the of the reports dealing with the guns the people were drunk. On was earlier at like 7 or 8 at night, the other close to 11 pm. The two were near the downtown area.

The other was a car fire believed to arson.

The ACLU is wacked

The wack job organization is at it yet again. We can't do this we don't do that. Now they don't want english translation on signs. Remember we a in America after all. Should you not know how to speak english first?

Here is part of the articale, to read more go to http://newsmax.com.

ACLU Doesn’t Want English Signs
The American Civil Liberties Union has asked officials in a Detroit suburb to reject a proposal that would require businesses with foreign language signs to add English translations.
"We write to strongly urge you to abandon the measure as unconstitutional, anti-immigrant and unnecessary," the ACLU wrote to the city Thursday in a letter that was also signed by officials with the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee of Michigan and Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development Inc.

I am taking my ball and going home part 2!!!

Mayor Bergson when asked why he left said he had another event to go to. He also added that he did not feel that the negations were going well enough.

Fist Mayor you were only there for an hour. Yes that is right just one hour. That is about the time a family spends in a restraunt to eat supper. This simple is not time to accomplish anything. You showed that you were not even willing to bargain before you cry foul.

Lets get back to the Mayor having another event to attend. When asked by Duluth News Tribune the city administrator said the mayor had no more meeting for the night.

Mayor Bergson you lied again not a surprise. Lets even assume if you had a personal event to attend what is more important? The negation should be.

This mayor is a complete embarrassment to the city.

I am taking my ball and going home!!!!!

What a whinny little baby we have as a Mayor.

Here is the opening part of an article in the Duluth news Tribune today. You can read more by going to http://duluthnews.com.

Duluth firefighters union members said a meeting Thursday in which they expected a tentative contract agreement instead ended in an impasse after Mayor Herb Bergson walked out.

The Mayor did say he did not think that the agreement saved enough money on the retiree health care side. However should the Mayor have not stayed and tried to work it out more instead of just taking his ball and going home? What a baby!!!!!

Is it time to recall Bergson?

At least one Duluthains feels he should be. I know with talking with many people there are also others that feel that way. I once and still short of do feel that a recall should take place.

I do not agree with a recall 100% like I did before Bergson decided not to run for re-election. With that said I would be more then willing to listen to this citizens view on why he should be recalled, to see if I would support a recall whole heartily again.

Here is a view point he wrote in the paper yesterday.

Duluth citizens need to recall Bergson
As much as I enjoy debating the finer points of Herb Bergson's term as Duluth mayor, I've had enough. The man has made some decisions in both his public life and private life that do not represent the best interests of Duluth's citizens or of our fine city.

He has well over a year left in his term as mayor, and I do not wish to have him to continue in that capacity.

As a registered voter and resident of the city, I and others of like mind have the right to ask for a recall election to remove Bergson from office and to replace him with a candidate who could complete his term. The process is clearly laid out and explained in the city's legislative code.
If you're a Duluth resident and a registered voter and you feel the mayor has worn out his welcome, let's take action.

MARK PINTHER DULUTH

Mark has also registers a website. There is nothing on it yet, hopefully there will be soon. That way people will know his thoughts, and more reasons why he feels Bergson should be recalled. The website he will run is www.recallbergson.com

If Mark wants to contact us so we can chat just email Duluth Politics at duluthneedshelp@yahoo.com

We are also interested if anyone else thinks it is time for Bergson to go or should he stay for his whole term? What are your thoughts?

I hate the current EBT system.

I have had a rant about EBT a couple of times. I will not add to it other then to say this, I hate the current system.

To read more of my thoughts about Minnesota EBT I have posted my other post links.

We don't do this much. An email came into Duluth politics asking us to check out a new discussion board. We did so and here is so you can do the same.

It will be another great place to discuss the issues that face this city.

http://www.duluthsolutions.com/

I don't personally know the guy that runs this board. Therefore I don't know what if any party he belongs, or what many of his views are. We will find as we read the board. I hope you take the time to check his board out.

The Saratoga has been saved.

The Duluth City Council voted 9-0 last night to save a 62 year old business. A business that would have had to close do to a new state law, the law dealt with adult enteranment. It was passed and signed at the last minute with few people knowing about it.

The council said they were in support of this because they did not want close a business no matter what type it was.

Here is part of the article from the Duluth news tribune.

City councilors voted unanimously Monday for an ordinance that also will effectively save the Club Saratoga, but not plans for adult entertainment at NorShor Theatre.

The ordinance was written by the city attorneys office at the direction of 3rd District Councilor Russ Stewart, whose district includes the 62-year-old club that features nude dancers. The measure simply extends the citys existing standards for adult bookstores to live adult entertainment. The ordinance also mandates where such businesses can be located.

We are trying to regulate this type of business in a reasonable manner, Stewart said.

The new language was required because of a state law passed in May by the Legislature that puts tight restrictions on where strip clubs can be located in cities. The Club Saratoga was found in violation of the law that says a club cant be within 500 feetof any residence or within 2,800 feet of churches and schools. However, the law provides an exception where cities can write their own superseding ordinances that can be more or less strict.

The city ordinance Stewart added to was updated last fall to prohibit adult bookstores from being within 600 feet of churches, parks and schools or within 400 feet of pedestrian plazas.

Duluth Air show

The air show went off this past weekend. It was the first one that I have ever missed. My dad and I are normally two of the thousands of people that show up at this great event. My dad did however get a chance to go this Saturday.

Once again the protesters were there. What are they protesting? They believe that this and any air show represents support for war. Well most if not all air shows have war planes from both the past and present, it is not any air shows host to promote war. All most anyone will tell you that war is hell but it needs to be done some time and thank god we have the plans that can get the job done.

I guess each day there was about 15 protesters that feeled the need to get in many of the peoples faces that were attending the show.

This years high light was the Thunderbirds. Also on hand was a mig, the Duluth air base F-16's, there was also an f-15 that flew with many other, plans on the ground. There were a few other so called"war" plans that flew.

The Duluth air show also had many plans that had nothing to do with the military. There were like three stunt shows and the Red Barron Pizza squardern that does a great show.

These protesters take a great event and try to drake it down every year. Yet it is very hightly attained every year. These protesters first are way off base that this or any air show is a promotion for the military. An air show is to an event to see great acts that include military shows. If some one sees these shows and wants to join then good for them but it is not the point of any air show.
