Just some questions to spark converstation.

With gas on the rise again, now at 2.85 a gallon I was just wondering if this changes anyones plans?

Will you drive differently? Will you not go as far on a summer vaction? What other effects does this have on your life, if any?

When you think about it, how much does a 25 cent increase in the price of gas cost?

If I were driving to the Twin Cities I'd use about 7 gallons of gas (maximum). That means I'd pay $1.75 more if gas is 2.75/gallon versus 2.50/gallon.

Even at a $1 per gallon increase in gas a round trip to St. Paul would cost me a maximum of an additional $14. That's small potatoes if you compare it to the cost of a hotel room, or even a meal for a family at a fast food restaurant.

I hate paying the higher gas prices too. However, even a $1 increase in the price of a gallon of gas only means an addition $10 or so per week for me.

I don't enjoy paying it, but its not enough to make me change my lifestyle.

At this point I dont plan to change any plans either. My family drives a chev truck to tow our little scamp 5th wheel in the summer. It does use a fair amount of gas for these trips but it's not so bad yet that we won't go. Last fall we did sell one of the trucks and buy a used subaru wagon. It uses almost 1/2 the gas that I burned driving the chev every day. It also went a heckofa lot better in the snow, even though the truck has 4wd. My only lifestyle change in the future..if gas keeps skyrocketing, is to look for something even smaller for my hubby to drive to and from work. I'm thinking that over time, if gas prices continue to rise steeply we'll be paying more for groceries and such because those things will continue to go up in price too.

Erik and KB,

I think most are in the same boat as you. I don't think that many people will change what they do as far as travel.

I know for Easter we went to St. Cloud at the time gas was around $2.65 a gallon, on our way down we saw a few station at $2.74. Anyway round trip gas was just over $30.00 and we both thought that was pretty good. Add what gas is now we are looking at only another couple of bucks, not a big deal.

We don't go far affen, in the summer around the 4th of July we talk a trip up to ball club lake for a week just out side of Deer River. We also go to my cabin affen that is only about a half hour a way from Duluth.

Other then that is it "normal" driving. This will not change our style at all either. If it does anything we don't go out to eat as much, no big deal.

Kb,

You are right about things going up. I am not sure that they would be tired to the gas prices going up or not but everything now a days goes up either way you look at it. How offen do you see something go down in price?

The other think I wish to know is why must everyone whine about gas prices yet they don't whine about milk prices, they seem to go up almost as offen as gas does. I don't care what it is it goes up in price. Why just complain about gas prices?
