KDAL's line up change.

The once great AM 610 KDAL is again changing there line up. The station use to have mostly local talk. The last couple of years the local talk has been less and less. Now with the line up change the only live and local program is the morning show from 6-10am. The 9 to 10 am is a contention of the morning show. It is an all news hour with Dave Walter and Dave Stranderg, from 9 to 10 am.

The only other local program KDAL had left is now being eliminated. The 1 to 2pm hour use to be a local business show, but that will now go away. It is being replaced by Clark Howard.

When will local radio get it? We want local talk.

John, I have XM, I especially like it when I am on the road. However, even when I am in Duluth, which is quite often these days, I don't listen to much local talk. I don't want to go on a rant, but I just don't like 710's "talent." 710's hosts spend a lot of time talking national issues and they seem to have the same few very right-wing callers everyday. I do listen to the FAN, but not PA. I think the Common Man is pretty funny and I think Dan Barreiro is smart and he has good guests. Barreiro's show can't be classified as just a sports show. Sadly, Duluth has nobody on the air as talented as Barreiro. KFAN's sidekicks are also good, where 710's are/is not.

Terrestrial radio is certainly in a bind. KDAL did this line up change because it is cheap to run syndicated shows. That said, satellite radio is also in trouble -- they spent too much on talent when XM was battling Sirius. The future of radio is mobile internet -- like Iheartradio.

Local programming would work, but it has the condition that it has to be quality, When there is a quality, they mess with it to the point that it is wrecked.
Look at Russ Stewart's show, they had to add a partner, and she took over not letting him explain, which is what got me and the others that listened annoyed and changing station

KDAL AM is going now where. They can FILL up the AIrwaves with Pumped in Satellite Programs but won't spend the money to hire D.J's and go LIVE and Local. Go Figure. For goodness sakes, either get with it or sell it off to someone who will actually do something. Midwest should be ashamed of themselves for running such a shoddy operation.

Patrick I agree. We want good local talk.

Tony it is hard to believe that WDSM will keep there local people much longer. I like Brad and think over all he does okay but I do wish that he and Lew would let people voice there thoughts, even if they don't agree.

Yes I understand why KDAL is doing the shows off the bird, it still sucks. It is hard to believe how much that station has fallen.

A lot of the stations in Duluth are struggling with advertising but midwest seems hit the hardest. Or they are spending there money in the wrong spots.

I thought Russ Stewart and Barb Olsen were a great pair who really discussed the issues. The callers also were a step above the usual five angry and inarticulate men who call in to the other local shows.
